“Heaven perfected on a hilltop.” This is how Belmond Reid’s Palace Hotel presents itself, as it celebrates its 134th anniversary in October 2025.
The prestige of this hotel unit, its historical importance for the island of Madeira, as well as its unique gastronomic spaces deserve wide recognition.
Breakfast is served by the pool on the Pool Terrace and the classic Afternoon Tea is served on the balcony. The renowned William restaurant, which has held a Michelin star since 2017, is currently led by Michelin Young Chef Award winner José Diogo Costa. As for Villa Cipriani, it brings us the flavors of Italy under the leadership of Chef Marcelino Fernandes.
But in 2024, Belmond Reid’s Palace introduced two important changes to its gastronomic offering.
Open since July, Brisa do Mar restaurant, under the command of Chef Zélia Santos, is dedicated to Portuguese cuisine and features Madeiran flavors and regional products as its leading characters.
Fresh, local ingredients are the basis of the concept of this seasonal restaurant. Local traditional cooking techniques, revived and modernized, also feature prominently. On a terrace overlooking the Atlantic, signature dishes with Mediterranean influences emerge from the open kitchen, a type of space much appreciated by customers and professionals. Pedro Matos, pastry chef, is responsible for the desserts.
It has capacity for 50 people and the decoration was designed to perfectly fit in with the hotel's architecture and the island’s natural elements.
Gelateria Bar San Giorgio, open since December, is the ambassador in Madeira of the iconic ice cream shop at the Belmond Splendido Mare Hotel, in Portofino, Italy, a boutique that turned a century old in 2024.
Located next to Villa Cipriani restaurant, this space offers gourmet ice creams produced in an artisanal way, according to Italian tradition, combined with local flavors and with a selection of unique coffees.
The “opening of Gelateria Bar San Giorgio reinforces the commitment […] to offering unique gastronomic experiences”, said Belmond Reid’s Palace when the space opened.
