After Audax in Funchal, MJF Group has once again invested in its original hometown, this time through the remodeling of its restaurants in Ponta do Sol, Madeira.
In late 2024, the kitchens at both restaurants underwent renovations. In The Old Pharmacy, cooking, pantry, and bar equipment were supplied and installed, as well as kitchen ventilation. At Steak & Sun, FN hotelaria supplied and installed cooking equipment.
As its name suggests, The Old Pharmacy pays homage to a former pharmacy in the village of Ponta do Sol, which initially served as a souvenir shop. But in 2013, after transforming into a Tapas & Wine Bar, it quickly became a staple of the town's restaurant scene.
Steak & Sun opened in 2018, positioning itself as a "sophisticated space dedicated to premium cuts of meat." As at Audax, executive chef César Vieira is in charge of the restaurant's culinary offerings. For Steak & Sun, he created "a menu focused on the essentials: product, flavor, and intention." But "orchestrating the day-to-day operations" is the responsibility of chef Vicente Carrero. The focus is "working with excellent products, with technique and respect for their origin."
